Investment Strategy

We help outstanding entrepreneurs and management teams build market leading service companies through platform build strategies that emphasize targeted acquisitions to supplement organic growth. We target platform companies at the smaller end of the middle-market ($5 to $50 million in revenues) because we believe it is the least competitive part of the market and below the radar screen of most PE and investment banking firms. Our objective is to build these companies to a size and scope that attain a market leading position which enables us to achieve premium exit values.  By building companies to a level at which they become interesting to a much larger universe of buyers, we can obtain significant multiple expansion relative to our initial entry valuation.  Since we set out to build companies that can achieve exit valuations of more than $100 million, it is important that our companies have an acquisition element to their growth strategy in order to realize the significant growth requied to meet this objective. 

We invest in business, industrial, healthcare, and technology-enabled service companies. We target those sectors in which we can leverage our deep industry experience, wide network of contacts, and the expertise of our Special Operating Limited Partners. This is a group of past and present CEOs of successful Argentum platform companies that advises our funds on investment strategy, assists us in evaluating investment opportunities, and serves as a reservoir of potential operating executives and board members. 


We are typically the first institutional investor in a company. As such, we act as an agent of change by introducing best practices and creating a more professional operating and governance environment. We generally serve as the lead investor in our transactions and take primary responsibility for performing due diligence and negotiating deal terms. We take a board seat on virtually all of our investments and usually play an active role at the board level. Since our platform companies are relatively small enterprises, we will often take hands-on leadership of their acquisition activities including originating potential transactions.
